I received a notification today that employers will now have to pay more, considerably more, to get a sponsor’s licence to bring in a skilled worker for a role which is on the Government’s own Skills Shortage list.
Why do we need this increase? I understand that there may be home-grown talent for these roles but if an employer has jumped through the necessary hoops to prove the need to hire a foreign worker then why burden that employer with a charge of £1,320 (per worker) on top of the fees they have already paid to get a Sponsor’s Licence?
Like some many things the current administration do it seems to be a very ‘anti-business’ move.
I’d suggest there should be no charge at all for hiring from abroad provided the role is on the Skills Shortage list and that the employer can prove they have done the required search for a home-grown alternative employee.
The biggest oddity is the fact that at the same time the taxpayer is ‘picking up the tab’ for tens of thousands of illegal migrants who are not allowed to work. I shake my head and fail to fathom out these policies!
