My Internship Story

My name is Ellisha Wright and I have been working as a Summer Intern at Recruitment Solutions. In May, I was looking for a temporary job for my summer break. While I was expecting to end up working in a retail job as I had in previous years, I stumbled across an advert on Indeed for a Summer Intern role at Recruitment Solutions and decided to apply on a whim. I was very surprised to be offered the role, but I am glad that I was.

What have I learnt during my time at Recruitment Solutions?

My main responsibilities while working here have been updating the websites and keeping the social media platforms up to date. One of the most significant tasks has been my work on the Recruitment Solutions and RS Logistics websites, which was a daunting task due to my limited knowledge of websites and my fear of completely messing them up. This was probably the most challenging task of my experience. I have only had very limited experience of editing websites, but after experimenting and doing some research, I have found that I quite enjoy it and would like to learn more about this in the future. Although I am still no website expert (and probably never will be), I can confidently say that I can complete simple tasks for the most part!

Regarding the social media aspect, I was able to build on some of my previous experience. However, it was interesting to restart a social media account that was not regularly updated and needed refreshing. In this respect, I had pretty much free reign over the accounts to make them more current.  This has been a challenge at times, but it was an opportunity to learn how regular social media content can increase a page’s engagement and push visibility.

Finally, I think the number one thing that I have learnt during these past few months is to have confidence in my abilities. When I started at Recruitment Solutions, I lacked self-confidence and was unsure if I could provide the results that the company wanted, but after these few months of working with them, I am sure that I know what I am doing and I hope that I can use this newfound confidence to my advantage in the future.

What have been the positives of my experience at Recruitment Solutions?

One of the things that I have enjoyed the most about my time working at Recruitment Solutions is the team environment. This was my first experience working in an office environment, due to my previous work experience happening throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, and it has helped to open my eyes to the way that offices work and has also given me an insight into the wild world of recruitment. By sitting in the office with the team and listening to their conversations, I have learnt much more than I expected about recruitment, which I can hopefully use in my future career. This also helped me to feel more like part of the team. Furthermore, I have consistently been given feedback, which is something that has lacked in previous roles. This feedback has helped to improve my confidence and made me feel that my work was valuable.

Reflection

My experience working at Recruitment Solutions has been very positive overall and I am glad that I have been given this opportunity to learn and join the team. I feel like I have come out of my shell a lot and produced work which has been useful for the company. I am very thankful to the Recruitment Solutions team for giving me the chance to work with them and always taking the time to help me. I have learnt a lot over this summer, and I hope that I can come back to lend a helping hand again in the future.
