A challenging ‘away day’ for ECFC, as the Grecians top League 2 courtesy of super-sub Nombe!

The previous encounter between the two teams resulted in Exeter falling to a 2-1 defeat in early December. Exeter supporters knew it would be a difficult task following on from the celebrations on Tuesday nights win against Barrow clinching their promotion to League 1 for the first time in 10 years. City were desperate for all 3 points travelling to the Sixfields Stadium, however they knew it would be a nail-bitter travelling to a team fighting for the all important final automatic promotion place!

Cameron Dawson showed why he’s been one of the best keepers we’ve had at the Park for a long term showing his ability by saving a 1v1 by the Cobblers striker Josh Eppiah.

Unfortunately, Northampton striked first with a goal from Mitchell Pinnock with a driven half volley down to Dawsons right hand side just before the half hour mark.

City were down at the break but fought hard to get something from the game when super-sub Sam Nombe flicked in a cross from Jake Caprice with 20 minutes to go making it 1-1.

In the dying seconds of the game The Cobblers had a corner which Nombe showed heroics again to clear a chance of the line with a diving header!

City’s final game of the season is at St James Park this Saturday! It’s against another team fighting for automatic promotion in Port Vale. All Exeter need to do is match/better Forest Greens result in order to clinch the League 2 title!
