So a week ago Rachel Reeves delivered her second Budget. There were manifesto promises last year of a pro-business labour party. I can’t recall anything the current government have done that has been good for business or that encouraged effort and achievement. The housing market will probably slump next year (or is it already?) which we know in the UK always puts the brakes on spending as people feel less wealthy.

Taxes have risen but what ‘Rachel from Accounts’ has taken from the working classes she has, in part, given back to those on benefits. Sure some of those people on benefits are working as well but I’m confused at what the government are trying to achieve.

I’m no economist but I would have thought the aim of government (unless they are TRYING to get everyone reliant on handouts?) is to get the vast majority of people off any benefits and into work. Moreover once people are in work or running their own business we need to encourage them to work hard, be productive and in the case of businesses we must encourage growth and expansion.

So Rachel, how about you reduce Corporation Taxes and Income Tax?

Right now many high-achievers are planning, or have already made, an escape from our highly taxed, highly regulated little island nation. That’s not good for any of us.
