I often hear it mooted by employers that if they train their staff then they will either leave for a better job or demand more money! Valid points and it can happen. The truth is those staff would possibly have left anyway in many cases, but offering training can be a good staff retention tool.

I would rather look at things another way. If an employer values their greatest asset (their staff) and spends time and money training them then they will be more adaptable, capable and loyal.

If an employer can build training provision into a long term upskilling approach whereby each staff member has a ‘pathway’ to greater earning potential and a wider array of skills then that employee will hopefully be easier to retain. Upskilling can be used to prevent boredom and staleness setting in which is more likely to result in resignations than a better financial offer. Extra trained personnel can make life easier for a business. For instance, it sometimes can be helpful in the workplace to have an extra qualified forklift operator or lorry driver, even if those staff are usually working in the office or the warehouse. If necessary they can jump on the forklift or go out in a lorry, the flexibility can be a huge benefit and add variety to the employees role.

Recruitment Solutions can offer a wide array of training to Companies through our Partners.
